Mixed Media Resins: Eric Zener

March 9 - April 1, 2023
Overview
The vivid depth of these mixed media pieces reveals another element in Zener’s work: the experience of pleasure.

Gallery Henoch is pleased to present an exhibition focused on the mixed media works of Eric Zener. Employing a multi-layered materials process, Zener has combined hand gilding, resin pours, photography, and oil or ink printing, achieving a depth and vibrancy not possible when using oils on canvas. These pieces will be the last of their kind available to the public, since the technical means by which they were produced is no longer existent.

Zener has characteristically approached his work with an eye to articulating enigmatic human encounters with life challenges. Expanses of water, and occasionally sky, have served as his backdrop, which he has peopled with swimmers and divers and walkers of tightropes. On occasion even the swooping slides of water parks have dramatized these scenes. In an apparent departure from much of this work, he has more recently turned to luxuriant representations of shrubs and greenery.

The vivid depth of these mixed media pieces reveals another element in Zener’s work: the experience of pleasure. Profound satisfaction can be had by simply viewing the natural elements in these paintings, and also by immersing oneself in their intimations of buoyancy, of hurtling through water, of taking in sunlight, and of looking out across an expanse of sky.

The exhibition will be on view at Gallery Henoch from March 9th through April 1st.
