George Henoch Shechtman April 20 - May 13, 2006
George Henoch Shechtman, Director of Gallery Henoch, has been a Manhattan
art dealer for the past forty years. It was 1966, upon graduation from
Rutgers University with a degree in Art History, that Mr. Shechtman opened
Christopher Street Gallery in Greenwich Village. At this time, he primarily
exhibited emerging realist painters, whose works he also began collecting.
In the seventies, Mr. Shechtman moved Christopher Street Gallery uptown
to Madison Avenue, renaming it Christopher Gallery. After ten years on
Madison Avenue he was ready for a change, and in 1982 he opened Gallery
Henoch in Soho. While there, Mr. Shechtman continued to exhibit a diverse
selection of realist painters. As Chelsea began to emerge as the art center
of New York, Mr. Shechtman moved to West 25th Street in the fall of 2000.
He has continued to represent painters and sculptors who exemplify the
best in contemporary American and European Realism. |
